Document Summary

People from hamburg are for trade, do a lot of it. It"s those merchants who (do not run the government but) were related to rulers and government leaders: the first son would study law, end up in government. The other sons would end up merchants: however, still sometimes tension between them. These lobbying groups are like merchant guilds: very much following in the footsteps, creating new groups. What are they trading: mostly trading tobacco, coffee, linen, sugar, trading with colonies, hamburg exports through shipping, shipping to the interior of germany. How are the intellectuals arguing for free trade: argue economies are more prosperous with free trade, groups relied on research and intellectuals. These are one of the most important things that moves along with goods, enlightenment is beginning. Intellectuals argued for free-er trade, wanted lower tariffs. Try to logically argue that the things they are importing are things they need: bourgeoisie: not the land owners.
