Document Summary
System of symbols and codes used to construct and convey messages. Never meant anything, but we got tired of looking at things in society and pointing at them. Can end up disagreeing if the thought is different. Connotative meaning: interpreted meaning of the word. Difference between dictionary meaning and ppl"s reaction to a term. Private meaning: our own interpretation of a situation. Means something to you, but nothing to everyone else. Shared meaning: inside meaning helps build comradery and relationships. Code switching: based on environments, community, etc. Language shapes how we see the world. As we recall events that happen to us, we put them into language.
