Small group communication: ideal number is 5-7 people but it has to be more than 3: group members should share sense of connection, group should have a sense of purpose. Types of group: primary: where we start, our family, this has big influence on us in life, social: seeing friends, socializing in life, leaning/education: groups in class, problem solving: in the workplace, teams given problem/goal to complete. Group dynamics: task roles: initiating, getting started, looking at assignment and giving opinions, elaborating and coordinating, recoding and energizing group, all part of getting job done. Maintenance roles: everyone in group plays role in maintenance, compromising, harmonizing, staying on task, following, all help group to stay on track. Individual roles: longer you spend in group, the more you want to be selfish, aggressing, blocking, dominating, talking about our personal lives, some people play role as jokester too much, things we do to make attention to ourselves.
