Document Summary

Linoleic acid makes prostaglandins which are hormone-like molecules that are responsible for cell signaling in all cells in our body. Linoleic acid is polyunsaturated (has double bonds and is liquid at room temperature) Linoleic acid is essential (we can"t make it) Sphincters seal off stomach from esophagus and the stomach from the small intestine (to prevent heart burn etc. ) In the epithelial lining, cells are making substances to chemically digest food. Chief cells make pepsinogen that is converted to active pepsin when it hits the lumen. Parietal cells make hcl in gastric juices. Hcl becomes assembled as it hits the lumen. Cl comes from food we eat that goes into the blood stream. The h comes from h2co3 (a weak acid) that combines with the cl to make. Cardiac sphincter is the one separating the heart and stomach; pyloric. Sphincter is the one separating the stomach and small intestine.
