Document Summary

Tropic hormone: stimulates another tissue to release its hormone (ex: tsh, Catecholamines: function as neurotransmitters and hormones (epinephrine, norepinephrine- stimulated by sympathetic nervous system in fight or flight response) Zinc finger: dna binding region on transcription factors (steroid-hormone receptors) Amplification of steroid: moves straight through cell membrane and transcribes dna immediately. Nonsteroid hormones are not lipid soluble and can"t move across membrane. They bind to a receptor on the outside of the membrane and activate a protein on the inside (1 protein on outside, 1 on inside) Epinephrine: encourages 2 regions of body to take glycogen and turn it back to glucose to make more atp. Epinephrine expands skeletal muscle blood vessels for more glucose transport. Epinephrine shuts down intestinal blood vessel because of fight or flight response. Pancreas is an exocrine and endocrine gland. Type 2: produces insulin, but cells can"t respond to it (obesity)
