Document Summary

There are two types of cell division: mitosis, meiosis, both forms of cell division are usually accompanied by cytokinesis, a stage in which the cytoplasm and plasma membrane of the cell divides into two distinct daughter cells. Mitosis creates exact copied of cells, meiosis create gametes specialized sex cells. Mitosis leads to the production of somatic cells, which are all cell types except gametes: genetic material is copied and then divided equally to produce two genetically identical daughter cells. Interphase consists of: g1 phase (1, s phase (2, g2 phase (3) The mitotic spindles: components during mitosis (causes cell elongation). chromosomes toward the poles of the cell during mitosis. Nonkinetochore (polar) microtubules push the poles of the cell away from each other. Kinetochore microtubules attach at the centromere (kinetochore) and pull or walk. Centrosomes are the microtubule-organizing center (mtoc) in animal cells: contain the centrioles, each composed of a cylinder of microtubules that function in building the spindle.
