Definitions: identity: a person"s broad sense of themselves, including their beliefs, attitudes, self-concept, and self-esteem, self-concept: a person"s assessment regarding their own strengths, weaknesses, abilities, attitudes, etc. Has nothing to do with feelings: self-esteem: an overall value judgment that a person makes regarding themselves, based on their self-concept. Some sources of our identity: family influences, peer influences, prior experiences, views of ourselves, views of the world, stereotypes, goals and aspirations, role models. A sense of guilt and inadequacy to be on one"s own. Ability to learn how things work, to understand and organize. A sense of inferiority at understanding and organizing. Seeing oneself as a unique and integrated person. Confusion over who and what one really is. Ability to make commitments to others, to love. Concern only for self one"s own well-being and prosperity. Dissatisfaction with life; despair over prospect of death. Integrity vs. despair a sense of integrity and fulfillment; willingness to face death.
