Marriage: recognized union between a man and a woman, united sexually, cooperate economically, legal contract, may give birth, adopt, or rear children. What influences how we individually define marriage and family: how raised, media, religion. Functions of marriage and families: source of intimate relationships, a unit of economic cooperation and consumption, produce and socialize children, assigns social roles and status. Advantages to living in families: continuity as a result of emotional attachments, rights, and obligations, close proximity, familiarity, economic benefits. Three domains of human development: biosocial, brain and body change, cognitive, thought process and perceptual visuals, psychosocial, interpersonal relationships, families and friends. Nature through nurture: cannot divorce your genetics, based on our nature, determines how nurture responds to you. Ecological model: brafenburnner, all of these impact each other. If something happening in the chronosystem, it effects all of the levels.
