Slide 1: la casa de la cacica: mesoamerican royal palace in colonial mexico, caciques and cacicas were the hereditary male and female nobles. Americas when the europeans arrived at the end of the 15th century. Slide 3-5: mountaintop zapatec site in oaxaca that was constructed in 2nd century, oaxaca has beautiful architecture like royal tombs. Europeans raided these tombs for artwork made from gold. Slide 6: northwestern part of oaxaca had mixtec community, has beautiful architecture, but is more known for its exquisite writing tradition. Had a pictorial system of writing that was done mainly on deer skin and involved natural dyes. Slide 8: another piece of art. Slide 9: summary of everything before, spaniards depended on the caciques and cacicas system that allowed them to introduce a new legal system to facilitate colonial order. Slide 11-12: the spanish empire was one of the first great paper empires.
