When someone cuts you offfeel emotion which is a mix of. Emotion is a full body/mind/behavioral response to a situation. Theories of emotion: the arousal and cognition chicken and egg debates. Emotion is our conscious awareness of our physiological responses to stimuli. Conscious/cognitive experience of emotion at same time as body responding, not afterward. Mental experiences are not mental because when body responses are blocked, emotions are not as intense. Cognitions influence our emotions by interpreting situation as threatening or non-threatening. Emotions do not exist until we add label to whatever sensations we are feeling. Heart pounding when meeting stranger for first time--may be fear, attraction, excitement, Patients injected unknown substance to them, but adrenaline. Placed in room where either happy or angry people. Spillover effect--felt whatever emotion group was feeling. Zajonc, ledoux, lazarus: body/brain without conscious thoughts. Some emotional reactions esp fear, like/dislike happen in more primal part of brain, skipping conscious thought.
