PSYCH 10 Lecture 8: Lecture 08 M21
Document Summary
Module 21: basic learning concepts and classical conditioning. How does learning happen other than through words/language. Classical conditioning: learning to link 2 stimuli occurring in sequence, associated with each other. Associates response (please) with consequence (treat) behavior strengthens. Cognitive learning: acquiring new behaviors + info mentally, indirect. Use language to acquire info about events experienced by others. School, don"t have to do to learn. Found that salvation from eating foods triggered by neutral stimuli. Seeing the person who brought the food. Neutral stimulus (ns): a stimulus that does not normally trigger a response. Unconditioned stimulus (us) and unconditioned response (ur): stimulus which triggers a response naturally, before/ without conditioning. The bell/tone (ns) is repeatedly presented w food (us) Dog begins to salivate upon hearing tone (neutral stimulus conditioned stimulus) The ur and conditioned response cr are same response, triggered by different events (conditioning) Ns and cs are the same stimulus, difference is whether stimulus is before event (conditioning)
