Milestone: differentiated cells organs + bones. Milestone month 6: fetus able to survive outside womb. Teratogens (monster makers): viruses/chemicals that can damage developing embryo/fetus. Fetal alcohol syndrome: behavioral, body/brain abnormalities due to exposure to alcohol at fetal stage. Smooth philtrum (skin btwn nose and lip) Can learn + recognize + adapt to sounds they heard previously. Can get used to annoying sounds if repeated exposure. Inborn skills (the competent newborn) reflexes : responses that are inborn; does not have to be learned. Newborn have reflexes to ensure that they will be fed. The rooting reflex: something touches cheek, turn toward w mouth.
