The patient can project their impulses onto their blank screen. Patient is on a couch, therapist behind a couch. Freud started this new type of psychotherapy: conscious, pre conscious, unconscious mind. Between sleep and awake, not full awareness: free association. Give someone a word/cue and they respond with the first thing that comes to their mind. Keep writing and not stop stream of consciousness: ego,superego, id, pleasure principle, reality principle. The mind is mostly hidden beneath the conscious surface.
