People blame reporters for telling them inaccurate information. Not too many of us experience politics first hand. We rely on media to tell us what is going on and provide us with information. News is a business, there is lots of competition (now more than ever) Harder to make money in the news business now bc it is harder to stay in business. The rise and fall of media environments 1820 2010 fig 14 3. Things that are in the news become more important to people reading the news. Hard news swamps soft news for those who are politically involved/aware. Opposite for those who are not politically aware (get more from soft news) With a larger news hole to fill, more decisions are made about content and coverage. With more news organizations competing for your attention, decisions are made to grab your attention. Some think tanks are more liberal or conservatives than others.
