Neuroendocrine control of male behavior: androgen dependent musculature. Raised question: are there endocrine and neuromuscular specializations for control of such courtship dancing or antics. Polygynous: males do not take care of young, gather in forests and display to females. Seasonal cycle of manakins and climate in central panama. Dry season starts in january, males start to show courtship (get up at dawn everyday and display) for about 7 months of time. Have a clearing of forest floor and have a display (go from branch to branch or flip) If female likes male and visually stunning display with lot of noise and great speed, follows him and then they eventually copulate. Wingsnap: throw their wings together fast and produce great sound (cid:894)(cid:862)(cid:272)hee-poo(cid:863) (cid:272)all(cid:895) attracts females. Individual males are selected by females based on courtship display males differ in the way they perform.
