Document Summary

Survival doesn"t really matter, reproduction is what really matters. An organism with greater reproductive success than other individuals in the pop. Fitness is the relative reproductive success of a phenotype or genotype. Alleles that confer the highest fitness on the individuals carrying them will increase their market share in a pop. over time. A direct alteration of dna so that one allele is changed to another. Really rare; over a long period of time, mostly bad or neutral changes. Within a pop, some individuals leave or new individuals arrive, changing overall allele frequencies. Evolution can occur via one of four agents: mutation, migration, drift, or natural selection. Often, there is conflict between reproduction and survival. Behaviors that decrease the probability of survival but increase the likelihood of attracting a mate & obtaining matings. Is there a human nature? (what does that mean?) Show someone a snake sweaty skin, increased heart rate. Same response in all countries and in all cultures.
