We have addressed some issues related to end-of-life care during week 7, when we discussed health care proxies and living wills. We will re-visit some of these issues from a different perspective. First we will define a dnr order, death, and then we will discuss some legal myths and realities about end-of-life care. Cpr - used to restore a person"s heart rhythm and breathing. Dnr - a legal order stating the person does not want cpr. When discussing end-of-life planning, advance directives, and health care, you may be asked about dnr orders. First, we will take a step back and define both cpr and dnr. Cpr is a combination of chest compressions and rescue breathing given to a person whose heart has stopped beating. A dnr, a do not resuscitate order, is a legal order that tells the health care team not to give. Cpr if a person"s heart and/or breathing stops.
