GEOG 4 Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Nationstates, Economic Globalization, Well-Order
Document Summary
With the rise of globalization, most of the power that nation-states once held has been reallocated to give authority to multi-national corporations and international institutions. In many respects, these international organizations have helped structure and stabilize the expanse of the global economy that we witness today, however these global forces are heavily criticized as well. Within recent studies of global politics, there has been a lot of debate on whether globalization and its forces are threatening the autonomy of nation states. The core arguments of the debate revolve around how people define globalization due to the fact that the term is extremely subjective and broad in its nature. Differing perceptions of globalization has given rise to arguments on whether nation- states are becoming more irrelevant in the face of the rising power of globalized forces. Many scholars argue that globalization is eventually going to bring about the complete demise of nation states.
