Innate traits- hair color (most times), red-green color blindness. 2 sources of info that influence traits- biology/genes and environment. Can measure effect of each on a trait. Not possible to say 1 controls a trait and another does not. Molecules in the cell, including those made in response to the dna (dna alters its own environment) Signals from other cells, uterine environment, external, social. Variations in the dna determine its own environment. Dna from dad and dna from mom are in cytoplasm from mom= first cellular environment for baby"s dna. The dna can"t do anything without an environment. The environment can"t affect the individual without the dna. Moreover, genes helps determine environment so it is impossible to separate the effects of each (combined work of both genes) If one holds the hose and the other directs, how much is determines by each.
