EPS SCI 3 Lecture 1: EPSS 3 ASTROBIOLOGY LEC 1
Document Summary
Astrobiology is the study of the origin, distribution and fate of life in the universe involving aspects of both fields of astronomy and biology. Although astrobiologists know that all of earths life forms came from one common ancestor, how or why that common ancestor evolved from something and into complex multicellular organisms is unknown: life exists on earth in extreme environments. Life can exist on earth even through adverse circumstances such as high/low temperatures, radiation, and pressure: there are many planets out there. The purpose of the class is to learn about our connection to the universe, gain appreciation for earth as a fragile planet in a vast cosmos filled with countless stars and the possibility of life around those stars. To understand key principles that govern the natural world. How did the universe, solar system, and organisms get to be the way they are. To become familiar with the scientific process to further inquiry and learning.
