Makes the native man look stoic and passive. He reified the stereotypes of native people being noble. Racialization of native people and that"s what people will see. This moment and the safest thing for him to do was the very thing that reinforces the racializatin of native people. Not saying that nathan phillips is bad-- not just the person but the racial dynamic that is playing out when we see this video.
