Heraclitus wanted to puzzle people, wanted people to explore themselves. When heraclitus investigated himself, he came up with universal law, governs entire world including him. Believed microcosm and macrocosm governed by same rules. Perhaps there are some mathematical relations that require that a certain type of order be enforced. So, if you want to investigate, you can investigate anywhere including yourself. Experience alone may be untrustworthy, must put senses into rational context, try to bring results into order. Art should have rules, be applicable to individual cases. If practitioner follows rules accurately, should succeed more frequently. The physicians portrayed themselves as having an art to establish authority and to give people reason to call them when ill. The plague at athens is an example where physicians did this.
