Wk 1 lec: study on female evaluation. Evaluation of a boss to female vs male subordinate. Evaluation harder on female than on male. Female evaluation harsher, ambition seen in negative light: domestic patriarchal power. Women in domestic setting might have to deal with: Capable of many procreations (doesn"t have to worry about process of pregnancy & birth) Sexually potent longer: having kids take them out of power: political, economic, military. Mother tethered emotionally, physically & hormonally to kid. When that happens, older female whales find energy to care take almost solely (e. g. find food and stuff) But don"t care take for everybody; focused on their nucleus family pointedly. Applies to female political leaders: biological knee jerk reaction. Once look at biological roots directly: what menopause mammals do; then maybe we can transcend the distrust & misconception: barriers to female power. Little biological payoff for an older woman as she gains more power -> no interest on her part.
