Power is seized and maintained through the successful deployment of a particular discourse, a set of declarations that frame and define a moment of time. Religion and science are thought to be a ubiquitous human phenomenon. Religion and science appear as natural and self evident features of non european and pre modern cultures. They are always: formed in political and socioeconomic power structures: embedded in history, social site, discursive community, and relations of power. Any claim that they are is an exercise of power and needs to be interrogated. Its tangled with gender, class, ethnicity, race, nation, sexuality, and so on.
