Depends on observation of and participation in musical events. Sound sources = voices and instruments that produce musical sound and whose. Idiophones vibrations give rise to our perceptions of quality. Classified into shapes (cylindrical, bowl, hourglass, goblet) Aerophones = enclosed column of air vibrates sound. Melody = sequence of pitches, aka tune, perceived as a unity. Disjunct motion = long song melody that moves in larger intervals. Compound meters = (duple, triple, quadruple meters) x3. Texture = perceived relationship of simultaneous musical sounds. Biphonic = lower sustains continuous pitch, other performs elaborate melody. Homophony = same sounding; melody supported by other vocal but on different pitches. Polyphony = 2 or more different melodic lines are combined. Heterophony = several instruments, slightly different melodies and rhythms.
