The greatest empire (in terms of territory) at its time. Largest yet seen, but did not last very long. Typical pastoralist tribe in mongolia (specifically, e. asia, north of china) No settled homes; constantly on the move from one place to another to keep their animals alive. Animals provided what they needed (food, milk, clothes, tents, alcohol, etc. ) Like most nomadic tribes, they were backwards, but had a great influence on history due to their success in warfare. Most of their times were spent training or fighting. Also advanced in military technology (even more so than their civilized neighbors) For centuries, caused chinese a lot of trouble. Led to construction of the great wall (to keep tribes out) Mongols spent most their time fighting amongst themselves. Population of 2 million mongols during 1100 ad.
