EDUC 378C Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Crenshaw High School, Gun Safety
Document Summary
A student in your honors language arts class starts to exhibit some unusual behavior. He has stopped grooming himself properly, appears withdrawn, and his grade has dropped to a d. you also notice that his most recent essay was somewhat depressing and made indirect statements about death and suicide. While suicide does not always have definite or clear signs, sometimes the signs are missed, or were not realized at the time. There is clearly something going on with this particular student which is noticeable through the changes in behavior, the lack of grooming, and drop in grades. The essay, while it seems like just another assignment, may have been the students" way of reaching out for help. Interactions such as these leave us wondering and troubled as to what to do. We think to ourselves what can we do, should i call someone, should i get involved, try to help the student myself, report the incident, etc.
