ECON 116 Lecture Notes - Lecture 49: Data Analysis, The Foundations, Dependent And Independent Variables
Document Summary
You know that some of the things you know are not true. Scientist have certain criteria that must be bet before something is accepted as reality: logical, empirical. Probabilistic: if you study hard for an exam you will have good grades. Another way to learn is the agreed-on knowledge that other gives us. Inner cultural knowledge that everybody accepts as true. Pro: you could not learn everything by yourself. Contra: if you have a new understanding of something that everybody knows . You believe people who are experts on their field more than people who aren"t. Example: biologists still make mistakes in their field you may be marked as a fool. We tend to overgeneralize on the basis of limited observation. Replication : repeating the observation to see if you get to the same results. You may focus on objects that seems important to you and miss some others.
