Culture - shared ways of doing things (just about everything) Personality - to your tendencies to think, feel, and behave in certain ways. " in certain ways" refers back to culture; culturally prescribed ways; you are a product of your culture: you make individual decisions based within the parameters of a culture. Values refer to ideas about right/wrong, rational/irrational, good/bad. As you grow in the society, you learn values and norms that shape personality. 3 different types of norms: folkways; don"t have to follow all the time, mores: mos, more; rules you shouldn"t break, not as strict, but still pretty strict, taboos: a rule you should never break, ex: incest taboo, cannibalism. Dominant culture - everybody is supposed to know and follow. Subcultures - cultures connected to various organizations or characteristics of people: ex. Religion, sometimes the rules can get you in trouble (cultural conflict: ex. Counter culture - subculture deliberately created to reject some values of dominant culture.
