Why do we want to study things that people have fun with?) Cultural/social beliefs -- the things they value. Power -- hegemonic (heavily influential things that affect society) For example, a normal kitten to be pop culture, the kitten has to go on youtube, get viral, and become a meme. Pop culture can be deemed as trivial. Pop culture is a universal language that makes people dream, smile; it also connects us through social and cultural differences. It says something about us and our better nature. The idea of popular culture bringing people together: solidarity. Most of the worked one here has looked to dysfunctions. Historically, popular culture has been threatening to white culture since it highlights things that aren"t deemed as important . Being exposed to so many things, it numbs you and makes you think it"s not that important. Provide opportunities for bonding experiences between family & friends (bringing people together)
