Family: is a key social institution, found in all societies, that unites individuals into cooperative groups that oversee the bearing and raising of children. Family of choice: people with/without that feel like they belong together and feel that they are defined as family . This is outside the established pattern that we define family as. Kinship: a social bond, based on blood, marriage or adoption, that joins individuals. Conjugal family: pair of partners (just the couple) Aunts, uncles, cousins, etc all living together. Social institution: a set of ideas about the way a specific important social need ought to be addressed. Because when we think of family, we already have an image of what is is supposed to look like. Family norms: gender roles (who is supposed to do what functionalist idea where there is specialization) To institutionalize: is to establish a patterned and predictable behavior. Women took over jobs when men went to the military.
