Document Summary

The only difference between a hurricane, a cyclone, and a typhoon is the location where the storm occurs. Cyclones are a threat in different regions of the united states. In the atlantic, hurricane season officially runs june 1 to november 30: however, while 97% of tropical activity occurs during this time period, there is nothing magical in these dates. Hurricanes have occurred outside of these six months. Long accustomed to fearsome storms, floods and earthquakes, filipinos are usually stoical in the face of natural disasters. Some towns hit by the storm may never wholly recover. Typhoon haiyan just cut through the middle of the philippines and devastated the small islands. The size of the storm, its magnitude, relative to the united states: engulfs florida and the carolinas, parts of georgia. Affected areas: huge numbers of people have been affected in other parts of the country.
