PUBHLTH 144 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Observational Learning
Document Summary
Chapter 5 social, cultural, and environmental theories (part i) There is a cause or explanation for things that happen. Causal attribution = process through which an observer infers the causes of another"s actions. Two causal dimensions: control: internal vs external. Internal/dispositional attributions= attribute responsibility for a behavior and its effects to the internal states or dispositions of the person who performed it. External/situational attributions = attribute responsibility for a action/behavior and its effects to external states, connecting a behavior to factors in the person"s environment, situations, circumstances. Theoretical constructs: stability = the extent to which a cause is consistent/permanent or temporary. Causes are either stable or unstable along with being internal or external. Social cognitive theory has its roots in albert bandura"s research on observation, modeling, social learning, and aggressive behavior dating back to the late 1950s. Further research revealed that behavior was the result of an inter-relation between these environmental factors, personal factors, and behavior.
