Document Summary
How close we are to another person geographically. Repeated exposure to novel stimuli tends to increase our like for them. Four equally attractive women (determined by pretest) Women silently attended a class for 1, 5, 10, 15 class sessions. At the end of the course, students were shown slides of women. Results: women they had seen more often were rated as more attractive and likeable. First impressions of a person are most affected by their physical appearance. Students randomly matched to be blind dates at a dance. Before dance, students took a personality and aptitude test. The only thing that correlated with how well the dates went was physical attractiveness. Attractive people are perceived to be happier, healthier, more successful, and socially skilled. Many aspects of attractiveness depend on time/ culture. In some cultures, having a pierced nose, long neck, and painted skin are considered attractive. Some aspects of attractiveness seem more universal.
