Document Summary

A relatively permanent change in behavior resulting from experience. The process by which organisms make relatively permanent changes in the way they represent the environment due to their experiences. The type of learning in which an organism comes to associate stimuli, and thus anticipate events. The work of ivan pavlov led to the initial understanding of classical conditioning. When a dog is presented with food, it will salivate (automatically) Pavlov noticed that the dog would start salivating to stimuli simply associated with food. Pair a neutral stimulus (e. g. a bell) with food presentation. The unconditioned stimulus (ucs) elicits the unconditioned response (ucr), but the neutral stimulus does not. The neutral stimulus is paired repeatedly with the unconditioned stimulus (ucs) The formerly neutral stimulus now elicits the response, which is now a learned or conditioned response (cs) If cs is repeatedly presented without the us, the cr starts to weaken. Pairing neutral stimuli with the unconditioned stimuli.
