Document Summary

Process by which physical energy from the environment is detected by sense receptors. It is then encoded as neural signals. Allows us to give meaning to interpret the sensory info objects and events. Psychophysics: the study of relationships bw the physical characteristics of stimuli and our psychological experience of them. Absolute threshold: the minimum stimulation needed to detect a particular stimulus 50% of the time absolute threshold. Difference threshold (noticeable difference): the minimum difference a person can detect bw any two stimuli 50% of the time. Weber"s law: to be seen as different, 2 stimuli need to differ by a constant proportion of that stimulus (but it depends on what type of stimulus) Transduction: converting one form of energy to another. Transduction means converting stimuli energy neural energies that our brain can interpret. Hue is determined by wavelength distance from one wave peak to another. Cornea: where light enters eye, protects eye, bends light to help focus.
