Agonists : a drug that enhances neurotransmitter activity. Antagonist : a drug that slows down an neurotransmitter"s activity. Binding themselves to the receptor and blocking it. Transmit signals from sense organs and muscles that are below the level of the head brain. Distributes signals from brain to the rest of the body. The brain stem: oldest part of brain automatic survival functions. Part of incoming auditory / visual pathways. Long network of neurons that extend from the spinal cord to the thalamus. You can sleep through traffic but if a baby cries you can hear that shiz. Extends from the rear of the brainstem. Looks like a tiny brain wowowowowow tiny brain in a big brain inception. Gets info from eyes, ears, skin (no smell) and sends those signals up to cerebral cortex for processing. Transmit replies from cortex to medulla and cerebellum. Relays touch signals to sensory cortex, visual info visual cortex etc.
