PSYCH 160A Lecture Notes - Lecture 10: Color Vision, Primary Color, Retinotopy

8 views2 pages

Document Summary

Blobs, ocular dominance columns & orientation selective columns all exist within the cortical layers. A complete set of all these features for a given retinotopic position. Each with peak sensitivity for different parts of the light spectra. There is quite a bit of variability in cone distribution across individuals. To experience the full range of colors that most individuals do, we must have cones sensitive to a sufficient range of the spectra. Some people are sensitive to less (colorblind) Some are sensitive to more (super women) But trichromaticity is only a partial explanation. Note: we only have three types of cones! And responses from individual cones are ambiguous. Perceived color results from the differences in cone inputs. Ganglion cells pool input to compute differences. Can create virtually any perceived color from the differences in cone. Ganglion cells received highly organized input from cones (and other retinal layers) Carried through the parvo layers of the lgn.
