Trying to collect evidence that stm functions as working memory . Stm has limited storage and processing capability. If a person"s available stm capacity is being used, they should have trouble simultaneously performing other information-processing tasks. At the same time, perform a verbal reasoning task. Hypothesis: if stm is necessary for reasoning, subjects should have trouble performing the reasoning task while remembering the strings of digits . Present subjects with series of sentences describing the order of presentation of the letters a and b (e. g. b is followed by a ) Each sentence associated with a letter pair ( ab or ba ) Decide whether sentence correctly describes letter pair (true/false) On each trial, subjects given 6-digit sequence. Subject instructed to keep repeating sequence out loud.
