Recognize symptoms of arousal and state anxiety. Overintensity will show up in physical symptoms, cognitive changes and behavioral adaptations. Some athletes slow down, some speed up, concentration is affected and focus is disrupted. Recognize the potential consequences of various reactions and the situation. Recognize and manage their physical reactions to ensure optimum functioning. Poor self-confidence can lead to negative reaction the situation becomes overly threatening and the body reacts with fight or flight response. Negative self-talk creates resulting fears and anxiety reactions. Even potential success can cause an anxiety reaction. Either real or perceived can cause anxiety . Social stressors may come from other athletes. Psyching out or the coach, or even teammates. Again, leading to a negative assessment and fear reaction.
