Math is important to solve the worlds most challenging problems but is also omnipresent in daily life. 78% of adult cannot explain how to compute the interest on a loan. 71% of adults cannot calc mile per gallon of a trip. 58% cannot calc a 10% tip for a lunch bill. Early math skills are highly predictive for overall scholastic achievement (even as late as high school) However, in pisa 2012 more than 25%nof us students score below grade level math, came in 36th among the nations that participated in pisa. Only 9% of us students score above grade level in math. Close to half of al seventeen year olds cannot read or do math at the level needed to get a job at a modern automobile plant. Kindergarteners can typically count to 10 or ever higher. Might be due to social games played at home. Math number line skills are important for early achievement.
