Beliefs about abilities and their impact on learning: teachers beliefs about students abilities (pygmalion) Teachers belief about students abilities affect how well the students succeed. Named after pygmalion who fell in love with a statue of a beautiful women and then she came to life. Students were given a standard iq test. Teachers were told that certain students who took the test were a good way to see that they students predicted the blooming and the sputters. The names of the students were randomly selected- just a standard iq test. Result- the teachers treated the students differently because they believed they were special and gave them the encouragement that they needed. At the end of the year all kids gained in iq, but those that were told they were special they got way better scores. Teachers acted warmer toward students they expected to do well (classroom climate, verbal and non-verbal)
