PSY BEH 11C Lecture Notes - Lecture 12: Tachycardia, Twin Study, Leptin
Document Summary
12 part 1: the physiological aspects of hunger and eating: The role of liver: after eating, lots of glucose: Converted back to glucose when needed: running back to glucose to use for energy. Supply exceeds demand, full signal: if the glucose exceeds the body demand converted to glycogen and fatty acids and body will send a full signal (20min to occur). Demand exceeds supply, hungry signal: the liver sends the signal to eat. Leptin and neuropeptide (npy): leptin secreted into the bloodstream and sends viral signals to the brain, inhibiting the npy, an appetite stimulant. Dual: one part of the region is the go center and another region is the stop center. The animals do not eat: if the ventromedial region is lesioned, the animal will eat viciously. Smells and sights will make you want to eat as well even if you"re not hungry.
