Someone with psychosis has loss of contact with reality. Not clear what is real, what is imagined. Hallucinations: sensory experience in the absence of sensory stimuli. Feeling something that isn"t there (a gentle touch, ants crawling on your skin, etc. ) Tasting something that isn"t really there (sour taste in mouth despite not having that sensation really there) Can range from beeping, whirling, whooshing sounds to people having full on conversations in your head that other people cannot hear. Next most common is visual hallucinations, seeing what"s not there. Can range from seeing a flash of light out of the corner of your eye to seeing body parts that are not really there. Distressing: can no longer dismiss as typical experience. Delusions: false beliefs about any aspect about a person"s life. Persecutory: belief that they"re being harmed/persecuted in some way, followed/spied on, etc. Grandiose: belief that you"re famous in some way.
