Document Summary
Fear (real or perceived (possible) imminent threat) Fight or flight (ex: tiger in room = run away) Similar to fear to a different degree. Fear and anxiety overlap, but are associated with different thoughts, reactions, behaviors. Developmentally normal fears/anxiety; are beyond excessive for a typical age (ex: anxiety when separated from parents as a kid = normal to cling, but when you"re 18 yrs old, it"s developmentally inappropriate) Transient fear/anxiety: we all are fearful at certain times, but with a disorder, the fear doesn"t leave. More likely to have another disorder if you have one anxiety disorder. Panic attacks common to all anxiety disorders. Choking, chest pains, distress, difficulty breathing, rapid or shallow breathing. Tingling in fingers or toes ( pins and needles ) Fearful that you"re going to go crazy or about to die. Raging heartbeat, heart palpitation, feeling of dread. More common to have a lighter attack than a heavy, dramatic one.
