Textbook used: psychology 8th - gleitman, gloss, reisburg. Psychodynamic formulations after freud: object relations and attachment theory. Relationships with other people constitute a crucial motive underlying human behavior. Can"t understand a human/think of someone as a human without learning about their relationships with other people. Ex: an infant doesn"t exist without their relationship with their parents. Ideas are about understanding who you are. Mythmakers, story tellers, theologists, philosophers, social scientists (psychology, anthropology, sociology, etc. ) Ex: someone in your past betrays you, and now because of that painful experience in one area, you find it difficult to trust people in some other area today. Attachment theory: how you interact with parents early in your life impacts your relationships with people now and your personality. Bowlby: early relationships with caregiver can develop either- Anxious/avoidant attachment >> if neglected, parents aren"t around, avoid eye contact, acts sullen around mother etc. When mom left and came back, is upset.
