Textbook used: psychology 8th - gleitman, gross, reisberg. Claude bernard: internal states separate from external states. We can maintain internal equilibrium despite stuff happening in outside world. State of tension is called a drive. Happens when there are deviations from homeostasis. Resulting behavior results in destruction of drive and returns to equilibrium. (when you"re hungry you binge eat then you go back to normal) Sex is inherently social, involves other people, unlike other biological motives. We have some control over hormones, but no control over all of them. Men generally have stronger sex drives, more testosterone. Female and male hormones both linked to sex drives, but males" higher testosterone is linked to higher sex drive. Women vs men picking sexually explicit films/images: When women pick it, they reach similar levels of arousal to men. Watching pornography makes people less satisfied with partner, sexual performance. Men more likely to harm women when participating in sexual activities.
