Document Summary
Attribute causes to dispositional, and not situational factors. Individualistic cultures = dispositional >> more about something internal in the person. If someone is struggling, they would call them lazy. If someone is struggling, they would say they are struggling in a bad economy. Having negative ideas about a group of people. Ignoring individual qualities, grouping people together and assuming they"re the same because they"re all part of that group of people. People say women are worse at math, so they just accept it and actually get worse. Facts, experience >> form an attitude on something. Central route to persuasion >> persuaded by content. Peripheral route to persuasion >> persuaded by who"s presenting the info. Experiences are more likely to change your attitude. Cognitive dissonance - uncomfortable inconsistency among one"s behaviors, beliefs, attitudes or feelings. We want to reduce discomfort by reducing inconsistencies, thus changing our attitudes. People like to have belief that they are consistent in their thoughts or behaviors.
