Genetic roots: our ancestors were able to survive bc they could hold onto their calories ( thrifty gene hypothesis) Environmental factors: changes in diet and activity level. Sympathetic branch of the nervous system: things we cannot control. 2 branches of nervous system, focus on sympathetic. Sympathetic: used in a crisis, life or death situations, anxiety, etc. Fight or flight response >> related to sympathetic system: Males usually more physically aggressive than girls. Relational aggression: talking about one friend to another friend, bonding with someone by trash talking someone else. Tend to get more offended about perceived slight. Explicit teaching can cause aggression (e. g. parents) Over 10k acts of tv violence per year. Drive reduction: internal tension that motivates behavior. Desire friendships, belonging to social groups and fitting in. Considered abnormal if you don"t desire to be with others and find a social group.
