Full meaning of each word is captured by a set of features that are essential for membership in the class name by the word. Ex: bachelor single, human, adult, male. Problem: a thing either fits of doesn"t fit definition = it"s all or none . This approach doesn"t capture the fact that some members of category are better exemplars than others. Word meanings or categories form based on experience. Features that often occur together lead to establishment of a category. The best example - the member of a category that captures greatest number of features of that category. Things can be better, or worse members.
